PvE Ruleset

PvE stands for Players vs Environment. With that in mind, here are the rules for the Griefer Grave Rust server.

1. Do not take items from any player container without permission

This includes boxes, corpses, owned horses (easily detectable as they will have horseshoes or items in the saddle bags), external furnaces/refineries, etc. Boxes with a sign such as "FREE LOOT" are fine to loot.

1.1. Do not take from sleeping or dead players in the open

Players who have unfortunately fallen asleep in an exposed area, such as in the middle of the road or outside their base, should not be looted. We consider those players disconnected and returning to the server at some point. Similarly, dead players may be returning to recover their loot. Stealing from either is unacceptable.

2. Do not enter a player's base without permission, even if unlocked/open

Entering a player's base without permission is not allowed. If the base has been abandoned and the owner has placed a sign outside such as "FREE LOOT", then this rule does not apply. However, we consider bases that are left open as accidental in most cases and therefore should not be entered. If you do enter one of these bases and loot, Rule 1 will be enforced. If you enter one of these bases and die to traps, we consider that fair/self defense.

2.1. Decayed bases are lootable, with a few things to remember

If you happen to discover a decaying base with unlocked/open containers, you are free to loot them. You should not break into any containers, as that will trigger a log to the admin team. You'll know if this happens because a message will appear in-game notifying you that you have destroyed a player-owned item. So, you can loot decaying bases, but you cannot break anything in those bases. If the decayed base is full of locked boxes, those boxes are considered protected. Wait until the base decays further or contact an admin who may be able to speed up the process.

3. Do not raid or break anything belonging to a player

Raiding (either breaking part of the base to enter or breaking a locked item within the base) is not allowed. Any action of this sort will be logged and sent to the admin team. Breaking more than 2 items will auto-kick you from the server and widen the eyes of any admin monitoring the game logs.

4. Do not interfere with other's progress intentionally

Players join PvE servers to enjoy the scenery, build a cozy base, and chat with other players. There are many things in place to guide players and help them to enjoy the experience, such as callouts & tips in the chat. Intentionally disrupting someone's gameplay by trolling, not respecting callouts, and sabotaging their progress is not tolerated.
Examples of disruption include:

  • Blocking another player’s building space or TC griefing
  • Deliberately damaging another player’s structure
  • Ignoring callouts & looting from monuments without a valid call (type /rc in the chat)

5. Do not PvP outside of the designated PvP zones

If you want to PvP, you can do so on either the small or large oil rig. If you kill a player in one of these areas, you are free to loot them and keep the loot for yourself. If you are killed in one of these areas, the player who killed you can keep your loot for themself.

You can also freely PvP with your friends as long as you are members of the same team.

If you PvP at any other time, a log will be sent to the admin team and you will see a visible warning in the chat reminding you of the rules.

Common Scenarios

Here are some common in-game scenarios that players might encounter, with explanations on how to handle them:

Scenario: A player is attempting to raid your base
Let them break into your base. Once they've broken a wall, a door, or any other item inside your base, kill them. Raiding player bases is not allowed under any circumstances. By allowing the raider to break part of your base, the log of this action will be posted to our Discord server, and we will have proof that the player had intentions to raid your base. We wouldn't blame you for jumping the gun in this scenario, but it does mean we have to fact-check a little more to ensure the right player is banned from the community.

Scenario: A player is attempting to kill you
Let them. Once the player has killed you, they will likely steal your loot. Now we'll have a log of this event, plus a log of everything they stole. You'll get your loot back, and they'll get banned. Again, we understand if you kill them on instinct, but if you can allow them to kill you, we'll have everything we need to remove them from the community.

Scenario: A troll is killing everyone
This is less likely in the more recent versions of our server, as we have auto detections in place to kick those who kill multiple players. However, it is still possible. We advise that you ping an admin on Discord or call for "admin" in the game chat, as this pings us if we're online. Fear not though, the player will be banned from our server and everyone will have their loot returned.
